If your goal is to only fly for fun locally, than the rec permit may be right for you.
A minimum age of 16 years old
You can start training at 14 years old
Category 3 or 4 Medical
You must pass the recreational or private pilot written exam with a score of 60%
Ground school is not required but highly recommended
A minimum of 25 hours of flight training
Including 15 hours dual instruction
and 5 hours solo
A flight test with a pilot examiner
Dual Flight Time 18 hours x $275=$4950
Solo Flight Time 7 hours x $190=$1330
Ground School=$500
